One of the central aims of the DCADP is to foster mutual understanding between China and the rest of the world in the global context. The presence of important Chinese cultural objects in museums outside China can often lead to feelings of resentment and a broad expectation that all cultural heritage objects should be returned to their place of origin, or to misunderstandings around the history, function, and significance of these objects. The DCADP seeks to approach these misunderstandings in two ways: 1) as an alternative to the broad notion of repatriation, by digitally restoring objects to their place of origin, and 2) through education about the histories and purpose of the objects and their places of origin. In support of this second point, the DCADP explores a range of approaches to in-person educational activities that will be shared here.
